Spongostan

SPONGOSTAN™ Sponge Standard, MS0002

SPONGOSTAN™ Sponge is a sterile, water-insoluble, malleable, porcine gelatin absorbable sponge intended for haemostatic use by applying to a bleeding surface. The sponge is off-white and porous in appearance. It is for use only by healthcare professionals who are trained in the surgical procedures and techniques requiring the use of this haemostatic device.

The gelatin sponge provides a physical matrix for initiation of the clot formation by enhancing platelet adherence and aggregation, and promoting a mechanical tamponade effect.

Indication:

SPONGOSTAN™ Sponge, used dry or saturated with sterile saline solution, is indicated for surgical procedures (except ophthalmic) for haemostasis, when control of capillary, venous and arteriolar bleeding by pressure, ligature and other conventional procedures is ineffective or impractical. Although not necessary, SPONGOSTAN™ Sponge can be used with thrombin† to achieve haemostasis.

†The use of thrombin is not covered by the EC certification and the H.S.A. approval of SPONGOSTAN™ Sponge.

Please consult the Instructions for Use for indications, contraindications, warnings and precautions.

Please note that all SPONGOSTAN™ Sponges may not be available in your local market.
